Chloe Steals A Win!

When Chloe Contreras stole home in the sixth inning of game two of the Griffs' MAAC doubleheader with Niagara at the Demske Sports Complex Thursday, it was the first stolen base of her career. And it couldn't have been any bigger, as it was the game winning run and averted what could have been a disastrous sweep.

The Golden Griffins' 1-0 game one loss against a team in disarray was extremely puzzling. Canisius came into the game leading the MAAC in offense, against a team whose pitching has been generally pummeled all season long, and yet Canisius could manage only two singles. What made the game even more painful was that they made a waste of Amanda Baun's three hit pitching performance, in which she allowed no earned runs. It's a loss that may come back to haunt Canisius, especially if they don't sweep their final four home games (this weekend). The Griffs got very good pitching in game two also, this time from Jen Consaul who won her 13th game of the season. Yet they very nearly lost that game too, ultimately winning it 2-1, thanks to Chloe.

So, Canisius is 3-3 at present. They wrap up their MAAC home schedule this weekend, then play their final six conference games away from home, including the bi-annual Fairfield-Iona trip which has not been kind to them, even in their championship years. Canisius really needs a sweep of their final homes games; if they don't get it, qualifying for the MAAC tournament is going to be most difficult.
